For those offering a product, possibly in conjunction with a service, product photos are an obvious “must have” for your brand. Potential customers need to know what your business offers. What is maybe less obvious (but still just as essential) is the importance of having good quality lifestyle photos to go with your beautifully detailed product photos. When you pair these two up, you are able to show more than just the product itself. Lifestyle photos demonstrate the use and value of your product in someone’s life.
Demonstrating how your products are created and utilized in everyday life brings your customers behind the scenes of your brand. While product photos allow you to show the product itself, lifestyle photos highlight the benefits, ease of use and value your product brings to your customer’s life. It’s usually better to show how great a product is, rather than just talking about it.
For example, if you’re buying a new vacuum, you don’t just want to know what color it is. You want to see it in action and know that it’s capable of keeping up with your pets and kids, right? On the other hand, if you’re selling vacuums, you want to show the vacuum cleaning up tough messes and swiveling around table legs with ease. You want people to see your vacuum being used by a happy customer in a clean and tidy home (and saving time too!).
When taking your lifestyle and product photos it’s important to keep in mind that the decision to buy something is typically an emotionally driven one. When we buy something, it’s because they recognize a need for it in our life or because we trust who is selling it enough to take that chance. Lifestyle photos make customers really want the vacuum featured in your styled product photos.
Neither type of photo is really more important than the other marketing wise, but both work together to create strong connections and transparency which leads to more sales. Yay for teamwork!
